Yoshi spoilers but…. They did do *something* with it!?
Apparently, they suggest that Kamek has been stuck inside Mr. E’s pages from since Bowser was a baby to the events of this game. Which means this is the first time he’s met Jr.
This helps explain why he doesn’t look older.

For example, in the same vein that Bowser Jr. is different from Baby Bowser, I wish they would directly play with the idea of the "Modern" Yoshi not being the same Yoshi that we play in most other Yoshi games. They could totally use of this to differentiate the two "eras" more.
