@HMRCVictim

Speaking out against the #LoanCharge. 100,000 people are being denied their statutory rights because, in HMRC’s “opinion”, they don’t deserve a fair hearing.

@PedantPedro @nobigfish @emily4MK The tax on promoters’ fees were neither in the Loan Charge nor in previous settlement offers…because fundamentally this money went to the promoters and it is they who should pay the tax. Why should we pay someone else’s tax bill? It’s completely outrageous.

@DanielJHannan The worst of the retrospective taxes, zealously implemented by Treasury ministers was the Loan Charge that led to many suicides and acts of self-harm. Guess, which government did that M'Lud.

Breaking: Government just confirmed it will apply new laws tackling promoting tax avoidance schemes to tax ‘finfluencers’ - protecting millions of people who have lost money or been fined following misleading financial advice. Expect a knock from the taxman if you have been ripping people off with your financial clickbait. #trueLabour

I’m grateful for the decision made at the budget to write off £5,000 of the liabilities of those affected by the loan charge scandal – but there is more to be done.

As Vice Chair of the Loan Charge APPG, I want to see justice brought to these victims and I was glad to bring this up again in the Chamber yesterday.

We were misled into a pension scheme registered with HMRC Yet HMRC has pursued us like criminals for 14 years HMRC can reduce penalties where taxpayers were misled by promoters Why are families pursued while the people who designed these schemes disappear? #PensionFraud

Again and again I’ve seen this utter nonchalance among policymakers and politicians about loading paperwork onto other people. They always, always expect you to just bear it. “Just one more form, what’s the big deal?” But there’s always another. And another. And another. And a…
Cut My Tax@CutMyTaxUK

HMRC has failed to do any assessment of the tax loss that will result from people quitting work as a result of the new MTD rules which require 5 tax returns a year. If just 1% of self-employed taxpayers with turnovers above £20k cease working there will be a direct tax loss of £75m & an indirect loss - from VAT, indirect taxes, & knock-on effects on the wider economy - of another £150m. And that estimate excludes anyone from the top 10% of self-employed taxpayers.

🚨 #LoanChargeScandal latest: More on #HMRC’s 15% deals with large corporations. Ray McCann, who was working for HMRC at the time states that the deal was 2005 with big banks. The Treasury is refusing to admit this. Ministers are engaged in a cover-up. loanchargeappg.co.uk/wp-content/upl…

1/2 This is the letter that I found on a Jersey Government website which accurately described the Channel Island LVCR Mail Order trade as "a complete sham". When I gave a copy to HMRC investigators I was asked if I had stolen it.
