Today @Conservatives called for Labour to u-turn on their fuel duty rises that will hammer everyone in the UK, but they marched their backbenchers up the hill to vote FOR the fuel duty rises. LibDems and Reform missing in action when the vote came.

At Prime Ministers Questions I quoted a litany of chaos HS2 continues to cause us here in Bucks, asking him, as part of the HS2 Reset, to finally act to treat all of us living with this hell on earth we never asked for to be treated fairly and with respect.

Delighted to welcome Councillor Dean Field to the @Conservatives - who leaves the Liberal Democrats behind. Our shared priority is protecting the Bucks countryside from Labour’s unreasonably high 95,000 housing demand - which the Liberal Democrats want to be even higher.

A superb event - an honour to be a judge - and wonderful to see young farmers from from Princes Risborough Young Farmers Club and Edgcott and Winslow Young Farmers Club taking part. Well done to all!
Victoria Atkins@VictoriaAtkins

What a fantastic evening in Parliament last night with Young Farmers from Bedfordshire to Cheshire debating the future of farming. Between the brilliant contributions and sharp interventions, one thing is certain – the future of British farming is in incredibly capable, passionate hands. Thank you @Blake_MidBeds for organising such a lively event. Getting the next generation of farmers involved in politics has never been more important than it is right now!

Loan Charge & Taxpayer Fairness APPG
In #TreasuryQuestions APPG Co-Chair @gregsmith_uk raises the fact that the #Treasury has failed to reply to THREE APPG letters about the secret #HMRC sweetheart 10-15% deal with big banks in 2005. Treasury Ministers look uncomfortable & @Dan4Barnet promises a reply. ⏰
Loan Charge & Taxpayer Fairness APPG@loanchargeAPPG

🚨 #LoanChargeScandal latest: More on #HMRC’s 15% deals with large corporations. Ray McCann, who was working for HMRC at the time states that the deal was 2005 with big banks. The Treasury is refusing to admit this. Ministers are engaged in a cover-up. loanchargeappg.co.uk/wp-content/upl…

With many households in Mid Bucks off the gas grid and fuelled by heating oil (to declare an interest my own home is too) I am working with colleagues for better consumer protections.
Claire Coutinho@ClaireCoutinho

Heating oil customers are being ripped off and Ed Miliband has taken no action since I first raised this with him last week. @KemiBadenoch, @VictoriaAtkins and I have written to the competition watchdog with over 50 Conservative MPs urging them investigate and protect consumers.

⚡️🚙 Demand for electric cars is chronically below @UKLabour’s targets 💷 So after trying to bribe people to buy them with taxpayer funded grants failed 💷💷 They’re now wasting £4.5m of public money advertising them to the public Instead of forcing drivers down one path, we should take the @Conservatives plan & back a drivetrain-neutral approach, cut taxpayer funded subsidies & advertising and let consumers decide what works for them dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1…

Heating oil suppliers are using the war in Iran to rip off families in rural communities. Ed Miliband needs to get a grip on price gouging by suppliers who are taking advantage of vulnerable families. My letter to Ed Miliband👇🏾

As the conflict in Iran and Qatar shows, our energy resilience is our national resilience. Labour’s plans to shut down the North Sea have left us more reliant on Qatari LNG. We need to get real. That means maximising the North Sea, adopting the Fingleton Review to make nuclear cheaper to build, and axing the Carbon Tax to protect British industry. Our letter to Rachel Reeves👇🏾

We knew on Saturday that our allies in Canada and Australia had backed the action taken by the United States and Israel. Yet Keir Starmer still couldn’t tell the British people where our country stood or whether the UK would allow the use of our own airbases. It took Iranian missiles hitting allies in the Middle East and a UK base in Cyprus before Starmer finally approved the use of our bases, and this morning the Foreign Secretary still can’t say if the Labour government supports the action against Iran. Iran’s regime has funded international terrorism, attacked British nationals, brutally repressed its own citizens calling for freedom, and continues to try and develop a nuclear weapon. It should not be beyond our government to say they welcome the US-Israel taking action. But, particularly in the wake of the by-election last week, the Labour government are too scared to say what is obvious to the rest of us. In towns and cities across Britain there are large blocs of voters – that Labour see as their voters – whose political loyalties are swayed by conflicts in the Middle East, not the British national interest. So we watch our Prime Minister and Cabinet Ministers squirm and obfuscate in interviews, because they cannot say what needs to be said because too many of their voters do not want to hear it. It isn’t ‘international law’ or principle. It’s pure, partisan, political calculations from a party that has surrendered its right to govern our country. I will always act in our national interest.

I stand with our allies in the US and Israel as they take on the threat of the Islamic Republic of Iran and its vile regime. The same regime that carries out attacks on the UK and on our citizens, that seeks to build nuclear weapons that would threaten our country and that brutally repressed pro-democracy protests only months ago and murdered thousands of its own people. Under my leadership, the Conservative Party will always put our national security first and work with our allies to make the world a safer place.

Don't let him fool you. Ed promised to cut bills by £300 but they remain £73 HIGHER than when he took office. This '£150 off' is a sleight of hand - he has moved costs straight from your energy bill to your tax bill and he’s hoping you don't notice. You're still paying for it, just from a different pocket. This amounts to a £7 billion taxpayer-funded bailout to energy companies that Ed Miliband has been forced into, because everyone knows his Clean Power 2030 targets are driving bills up, not down. It’s not paid for by taxing the wealthiest. Under Labour they’ve raised taxes on students, pensioners, working people’s income, family holidays. Ordinary people are suffering because of their tax raid. And the policy Labour announced at the Budget does NOTHING to cut bills for businesses who will be crushed by soaring network charges to fund his massive expansion of wind farms. What’s worse, experts say that by 2030 energy bills will be at levels last seen during the energy crisis because of all the costs Ed is signing us up to. Britain simply cannot afford to be locked into uncompetitive energy prices. The Conservatives are the only party with a Cheap Power Plan that could cut bills by 20% instantly for households and businesses.
Ed Miliband@Ed_Miliband

1/ Government is about choices. Last autumn at the Budget, we decided to raise taxes on the wealthiest so we could take £150 of costs off energy bills. Today it has been confirmed that the energy price cap will fall by 7% from April. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

BREAKING: 130 cross-party MPs and Peers co-sign letter led by CFI Honorary President Lord Polak CBE and Lord Mendelsohn, urging the UK Government to fast-track legislation to proscribe the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). They welcome confirmation that the Home Office is preparing legislation to proscribe hostile state agencies, including the IRGC. No timeline has been set, however, and the parliamentarians state: "With the situation in Iran deteriorating rapidly and the IRGC’s hostile activities continuing abroad, it is vital that this legislation be prioritised and brought forward urgently." "The European Union has taken decisive steps to proscribe the IRGC. Any delay of action from the United Kingdom risks leaving us out of step with our closest partners."

Honoured to take on this role. Defending and strengthening the UK-Israel relationship could not be more important at this time.
CFoI@CFoI

CFI is delighted to announce the appointment of Greg Smith MP as our new Parliamentary Chair in the House of Commons. Previously a Parliamentary Vice-Chair of CFI, Greg has been a consistent and steadfast advocate of closer economic and security ties between the UK and Israel. In the wake of the atrocities of 7th October 2023, he provided a strong voice in the House of Commons in calling for the UK to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with its ally Israel. Greg Smith MP, CFI Parliamentary Chairman (House of Commons): “It is an honour to take on this important role alongside my constituency and front-bench duties. The UK-Israel partnership symbolises a shared commitment to democracy, security and tolerance in a world where these values are threatened like never before. I look forward to working closely with the excellent CFI team.” Jeremy Brier KC, Chairman of CFI Board of Directors: “Greg has been a principled and intelligent voice in support of the UK-Israel partnership ever since he arrived in Parliament. His interventions over the Middle East have brought balance and moral clarity to a Commons chamber dominated by anti-Israel invective.” Rt. Hon. The Lord Pickles, CFI Parliamentary Chairman (House of Lords):"Greg's energy and dedication to strengthening UK-Israel ties make him the ideal choice to lead CFI in the Commons. I look forward to working closely with him in this important work." Lord Polak CBE, CFI Honorary President: "I am thrilled to see Greg take on this vital role. His track record as a Vice-Chair and his unwavering support for Israel will ensure CFI continues to thrive as a voice for friendship and cooperation with Israel."
