We need @GovAbbott to take action NOW to #SaveIvanCantu by granting him a stay before he's executed TODAY at 6pm CST. Our criminal justice system has failed Ivan Cantu. I'm joined by 150k+ people demanding that Ivan finally gets his fair day in court.

@Afro_Herper This Meller’s chameleon is communicating his Big-Scariness by raising the flaps on his head, gaping, and displaying black polka dots. (Which are very Scary.)

The side blotched lizards this time of year get beautiful orange coloring on their faces for breeding season. What else do you know about lizards when it comes to communicating with each other. While you think about it, let me know if you #FindThatLizard with #FoundThatLizard!

@HallenAdams Do NOT put it in your pocket tho. Most painful sting of all of the madtoms (in my unfortunately experienced opinion)

A fat catfish for #SundayFishSketch . The Tadpole Madtom may be fat (“The Fishes of Nebraska” says “chubby”) but is not large, topping out at about five inches. A good pocket-sized catfish.

@UrsulaV Guess I ordered it twice - which is good, because your books are more likely than some to go wandering when I loan them out.

Sitting here daydreaming about making tomato and pepper hybrids and I had a fleeting thought “Eh, that’s going to be really hard.” Then I remembered I used to make Arabidopsis crosses and I snapped out of my moment of self doubt.

@lab_ogden Corollary: PIs, don’t beat your personnel to the cool data! As part of my postdoc project we had sequenced a genome. The sequence was posted. I looked for our gene of interest IMMEDIATELY, found it, & e-mailed my PI. He already knew. He was on vacation in California…

@KatelynJButler @RebeccaNShay Fusarium species: “I don’t like these culture conditions, so I’ma throw away chromosomes ‘til I’m happy”. S. cerevisiae & multiple yeast species: “Let’s just try a whole genome duplication”. Why? Who knows? But it’s cool!

@KatelynJButler @RebeccaNShay I don’t know, but if you can fit fungi into the discussion, I recommend it! (Candida albicans - almost never does meiosis, 2N mates to yield 4N then decays back down to 2N over time; also C. albicans: “drug resistance? - Let’s copy chromosome 5”)
