Soon, the House will vote on an amendment to block taxpayer funding to Israel’s military.
I will vote yes.
The Israeli government committed war crimes in Gaza and helped drag America into war with Iran. Americans should not be financing more weapons for Netanyahu.
I am aware that the amendment as written may cut off both military weapons (~$3.3 billion) and some diplomatic funding (~$50 million). While I would prefer to vote on an amendment that stripped just military funding, I think opposing the billions in military funding is what’s most important here.

Grateful that @ColombiaONU invited me to brief the UN Security Council #UNSC, on behalf of the Norwegian Refugee Council @NRC_Norway.
The facts are clear. Palestinian communities continue to face forced displacement, demolitions, settler attacks and growing protection risks.
International law is clear. What is needed now is implementation that protects civilians and upholds their rights.
Humanitarian organisations must be able to reach Palestinians in need. Israel, the occupying Power, must facilitate impartial humanitarian relief. Restrictions on humanitarian access and operations catastrophically harm civilians who depend on assistance and protection.

Mamdani is wrong. Israel is not a state founded on religion. It is the nation-state of the Jewish people, based on the Jewish people’s right to self-determination just like any other nation. Framing Israel as a religious state (hello, Israel’s current religious coalition) reflects a misunderstanding shared by many Americans about what a nation-state is, why it exists, and the fact that most countries in the world are nation-states. That doesn’t necessarily make him antisemitic, but it does suggest a fundamental misunderstanding of the issue
