When people hear what I’m paid on mat leave, especially compared to those in the private sector, they are shocked. In a profession heavily made up of women, it’s unsurprising that most leave teaching. The perks of term time working just aren’t enough to keep many working mothers

I want to believe reading full texts is clearly superior to reading extracts, but @ReadingShanahan explains we have no evidence for this claim and why it likely isn’t the case. Full texts *and* extracts, with lots of quality talk & writing for the win.

First day back in school working since baby showed up in April and I’ve had such a good day - I know it’s Inset day, but going back after a long time off and just picking back up is such a nice feeling. Evening with baby now!!

A very different end to an academic year for me, home on maternity leave. Feels very odd knowing I still won’t be back in September either, but blessed to hear about the department thriving. What a team #TeamEnglish

To be clear, if you want to teach your kids this, crack on. I disagree with the term being applied to AIC but it can be argued. What I LOATHE is giving students high level vocabulary they do not intend to discuss/utilise. It’s superficial. PS - AQA don’t like it either 👇🏻

Interesting. If Media Studies is such as ‘Mickey mouse’ subject, why do only 2.3% get an A*? Let’s hope Media is put back on the map as a critical component of the British curriculum at the next reform!

@englishspecial People stating that this is about students, but really this is about exam boards. The % required for an A/A* in Physics for example is at a minimum 20 percentage points lower than for Eng Lang. Exam boards can choose to give more students top grades in this subject.

Received a letter today. @harrow_council have decided that a letter that was never delivered to me is my fault and I owe £195 because I didn’t pay a fine I didn’t know about. Insult to injury: the grammar in the letter is horrendous. I’ll use it for Year 7 literacy lessons.
