While North Carolina families are still suffering from Hurricane Helene — with over 126,000 homes destroyed, 104 confirmed deaths, and $60 billion in damages — a Florida Congresswoman, Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick, was indicted for allegedly stealing $5 million in FEMA disaster funds. Prosecutors say the money (an overpayment to her family’s company from a COVID-era FEMA contract) was laundered and funneled into her congressional campaign. She’s accused of using it for personal luxuries too — including a flashy $109,000–$120,000 yellow diamond ring that showed up in her official photos. The House Ethics Committee just found her guilty on 25 out of 27 ethics violations for misusing those funds and campaign finance abuses. This is the kind of swamp behavior that disgusts everyday Americans. FEMA’s job is to help disaster victims — not become a piggy bank for connected insiders and campaign coffers. As a small business owner and restoration company specialist, I’ve seen firsthand how corrupt FEMA really is — they routinely ignore industry standards, delay critical help, and leave families and contractors hanging while wasting taxpayer dollars.
