The future of aging isn’t about slowing down. It’s about stepping up. At the age of 87, I remain as engaged and active as ever, continuing to explore ideas, contribute to meaningful projects, and shape discussions about the future of society. My wife, Hilde, now in her late 70s, shares this same enthusiasm for life. Both of us have been fortunate to experience what I believe should be a new norm for aging, a period of continued engagement, contribution, and fulfillment rather than withdrawal or stagnation. While many consider retirement to be the natural end of professional life, I have had the privilege of working for more than 20 years beyond the traditional retirement age, and this experience has been immensely rewarding, intellectually stimulating, and personally enriching. During this extended phase of my career and life, I have met countless so-called “retired” individuals who struggled with a loss of direction, purpose, and, often, health. The excitement, challenges, and community that work had once provided were suddenly absent, leaving many to feel disconnected and unfulfilled. It became clear to me that our societal approach to retirement is outdated: its framing as a time to slow down rather than as a new chapter of potential growth, creativity, and contribution. This realization is what inspired me to write the book ‘Longevity and Retirement in the Intelligent Age’ and call for a new narrative on aging and retirement. What I have been lucky to experience, remaining engaged in work, learning, and contributing to society well into my 80s, should be the norm, not the exception. For those who are healthy and interested, this level of activity and purpose should be a realistic and encouraged option, not a rare privilege. We must rethink aging as an era of potential rather than as a winding down of life’s journey.

Liquid Glass is a design cancer. It consumes and overwhelms everything it touches by adding intense distortions, drop shadows, lighting effects, and unnatural spacing to controls and UI in ways that make them harder to see and understand. It is pretty, and seductive, but it makes every interface it touches worse by prioritizing fun effects over common sense design principles like contrast, uniformity, readability, and sane information density. Liquid Glass is the antithesis of great UI design: it is fashion. Form over function. Great design “isn’t just what it looks like, it’s how it works”. And Liquid Glass makes nearly everything it touches look pretty, but work worse.
