If anyone is interested in how wild and weird Soviet fashion got in the 80s, I'd recommend the 2008 Russian crime drama Cargo 200. It's partially an adaptation of Faulkner's Sanctuary. It was by the "Russian Tarantino", Alexei Balabanov, who's done some of my favorite movies, and while I hold Cargo 200 in extremely high regard I also basically can't watch it again because it's so upsetting.
Movie uses costuming better than almost any other film I've ever seen. The young people like cute but faintly ridiculous in imitation-western 80s outfits, but anyone over 35 is wearing these bizarre, outrageously, fascinatingly hideous outfits that feel more Post-70s than anything in the west. Very effective way to communicate how crazed and degraded the Soviet system was by that point.
