New episode! This month we're looking at burial customs, overcrowding and how graveyards changed between the medieval and Victorian periods in England. There are church grims, grave robbing monks, pirates and corpse roads. Listen here: historyandfolklorepodcast.libsyn.com

Lovely folklore people. I am trying to figure out Mast 0 don but ca't figure out servers. All the folklore people seem to be @ thefolkore. cafe. Does that still exist or is it not actually a server? I'm too bad at technology for this and would appreciate any help!

If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me if Trump is coming back on this platform, Twitter would be minting money!

Half term break started with a stomach bug and ended with chicken pox. But we did get a break long enough to get out on the water for an hour.

@lilithepunk A guy started normally chatting me up at a festival. I said I had a bf. He asked where he was, so I told him he'd been posted to Afghanistan (military photographer). His response was `well he'll probably be dead soon, so why don't you come for a drink?` Right then.

What's the worst chat up line you've received? Mine was a guy asking me out so we could talk about my father... I went, he looked good in a gorilla suit.

So, I visited my Auntie’s friend’s house in Devon and he had the most stunning reading room/library I’ve ever seen - plus he lay out all of his folklore books for me to look at and I’m still emotional about it now😭💚

A bonfire a day keeps the dragons away. In the C12th John Beleth explained that at midsummer dragons mate and sometimes emit semen intro springs and rivers, causing disease. Lighting a fire of bones scares the dragons off and keeps the community healthy. #FairyTaleTuesday

Lou Carcolh is a huge snail said to live in the caves beneath Hastingues in France. It has huge, slimy tentacles round it`s mouth that it can stretch for miles and uses to whip and paralyse anything within reach before dragging it back to eat whole. #FairyTaleTuesday

`Cast ne`er a clout til May is out` warns us not to get used to the spring sunshine and shed the winter layers too early. British weather is fickle and the cold likely to return. #FolkloreSunday

Monty Python tells us a good way to know if someone is a witch is to see if they weigh less than a duck. If you do not have a duck you can drive an iron nail into their footprint. If they are a witch the pain will make them retrace their steps to pull it out. #FolkloreThursday

One day Shon stopped to listen to a bird sing. He then went home, to be met by an old man who claimed the house was his. The man soon realised Shon was his uncle, who had mysteriously disappeared years ago. The old man went to hug Shon, who crumbled into dust. #WyrdWednesday

The Caballucos eat only shamrocks and as the do so their saliva drops to the ground, transforming to gold. Taking this gold will secure both your wealth and your place in hell after death.

Every year in Cantabria, a region of Spain, multicoloured stallions known as the Caballucos del Diablu appear from the midsummer bonfires and fly on damselfly wings. These horses are punished sinners and their colours correspond with their sin.
