No national speech at 6 PM ET announced positive developments—markets are reacting negatively to the escalation.

⚠️US consumer sentiment has NEVER been this DEPRESSED: The University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment Index fell to 47.6 in March, the lowest reading in HISTORY. The index has more than HALVED since 2019. This comes as the current conditions index hit a record low, while Americans’ expectations fell to the lowest level since 1980. Meanwhile, 1-year expected business conditions fell –20% and are now 6% below April 2025 levels. Sentiment is now even lower than during the Great Financial Crisis, as well as the Great Inflation and double-dip recession periods in the 1970s and 1980s. In fact, every major recession since the 1950s began with consumer sentiment higher than where it is today. Economic sentiment among US consumers has COLLAPSED.

JD Vance doesn't know what the term "negotiation" means. He says, basically, "We showed up, gave them our demands, said this was our final offer, and they refused to agree to it. So we left."
