We used integrative #taxonomy 🔬+🧬to identify the amphipods and tested different potential root causes: reproduction, thermal stress, pathogens, and physical conditions. We also collected data from @inaturalist of similar amphipod strandings worldwide @IOLR_Israel @iui_eilat 2/3

🔍We found that these events occurred seasonally and repeatedly during March-April. Turns out, cyclonic eddies may be the culprits, trapping and stranding these crustaceans. 🌪️🌊 3/3 @inaturalist @IOLR_Israel @iui_eilat
