Yesterday, Channels TV interviewed Dangote and asked why his cement and other locally produced goods are expensive. Here’s what he said:
“All the companies you know under me spend at least ₦95 billion every single month on diesel alone. The cement plant in Obajana alone consumes about 50 million litres of diesel every month. At the end of the year, our total diesel cost is over ₦1 trillion annually. That’s not a small amount that people can ignore. So the cost of our products, especially cement, has to be high because from production to distribution, we rely heavily on diesel.”
That was Dangote’s explanation.
Now think about it. A man spending over ₦1 trillion yearly just on diesel, not even counting maintenance, staff salaries, allowances, taxes, and other expenses. Do you even understand what ₦1 trillion means? 😒
For comparison, Jigawa State with a population of over 8.2 million has never had a ₦1 trillion budget till today.
With all this wealth, Dangote still has just his three daughters. May God protect us from poverty in this world and the hereafter. 👌

I once told the Uber driver who took me from Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport to Alhaji Dutse that I’d be heading to the U.S. Embassy in two days because I wanted him to transport me. He asked if my passport was ‘virgin’ and gave off this vibe that getting a U.S. visa with that would be really tough. Well, God did. To get to the domestic terminal from the International terminal in Nigeria, you need a taxi. So I was warned to use Bolt which costs less than 10000 Naira.
But the moment I walked out to get of the arrivals hall, I was greeted by a bunch of hustlers. They introduced me to the chairman 😂
He is the chairman of taxis they said. Why does everyone want to be chairman of something in Nigeria?
Anyway the chairman carried my bag and took me to a taxi outside where he hustled his commission from the driver. I paid 15000 Naira ~$10.
The domestic terminal needs to be demolished and a new one needs to be built.
Gotta give it to Nigerians, they are friendly people.

The e-visa situation to get into Nigeria, albeit being a clever idea needs a lot of refining. But the guys that helped me a pretty nice and chilled. The International airport in Lagos is the only airport in Africa where there is a risk of TOUTING at the airport. They have big posters warning about TOUTS. The only other airport where an airport official acted like a tout I have been to was the airport in Cairo, Egypt. Story for another day.
