@RadLacina @KissineMikhail This does not address the classic "Some dogs are mammals" case; You would need to tell it that "All daxes are dumbos" before asking the test question. Sorry for multiple replies :-)

I guess many people already tried this, but it is interesting that unlike around 30% of participants in traditional experimental pragmatic studies ChatGPT can’t find an interpretation under which ´Some dogs are mammals’ is false @Irastamon #xprag #implicature

@wisekaren 'Squib' is occasionally used in academic journals (and in my mind linguistic journals) to describe a type of short article that (the author considers to be) potentially impactful. Some of my favorite pieces are squibs. That said, I associated these with the firework meaning.

The word SQUIB came up in a puzzle I was solving this morning, and I had to look it up: "a short humorous or satiric writing or speech; a short news item." I think that would be a good name for a website/social media site.

@DannyBate4 So, another way to put it is that “both” provides an upper bound (not more than two) that “two” doesn’t?

Maltese has two very different words for 'two': tnejn and żewġ. They're not interchangeable, as żewġ must be used with a noun that it counts – as in żewġ kotba 'two books'. This restriction may be due to its origins, deriving, via Arabic, from the Greek word zeûgos 'pair, yoke'.

@OnSophiaStreet I’m there. So far it feels like that moment early at a work party where people are eyeing each other but not interacting much. But it does have the feel of Twitter. I do miss the political stuff.

@jasondhorowitz @NewYorker A writer friend sent me your piece, undoubtedly b/c I too grew up with the Mets (played LL in Flushing Meadow next to Shea), have kids who I raised abroad (France) & with whom I shared my love of baseball & the Mets. Don't worry, Luca will get it. OTOH, if they win next year...

For the @NewYorker I wrote about the struggle to raise my son as a Mets fan out in Rome, where I worry the quick-hit highlights era is failing to prepare him for the heartbreak that comes with being a Mets lifer — and maybe a son — in any era. newyorker.com/culture/cultur…

@sergioten Don’t mean to sound snarky (I’m not a big enough football fan to go all out for it but I also know a lot of people boycotting it this time).

@VBambini For the record, I asked an artist friend Didier Cailly to come up with (to imagine) a cover after describing the contents of the book.
