Japan and apparently all Asian countries have these VERY popular arcade machines called “Pokemon frienda” where you can get these little guys printed out, then actually scan them into the game to fight. It’s like the Pokemon TCG but way more interactive! Seems to be most popular with kids and even found at common all-purpose stores like BicCamera! You basically fight and collect Pokemon through the physical cards with progress saved through a physical trainer card. Only 100 yen per play so it is super easy to get into! But super easy to get obsessed with, every time I play I see these kids with like boxes of HUNDREDS of these physical cards. I had absolutely no idea this existed! So, just wanted to share for all my friends on the other side of the pond - I hope they bring something like this to the US one day, I could see this going crazy at a regionals or something.
