🇮🇷🇺🇸 The talks in Islamabad didn't fail because Iran wasn't serious. They failed because the wrong person was in the room. Ghalibaf led Iran's delegation through the Islamabad talks and carried a 10-point framework. He also doesn't control Iran's enrichment infrastructure, the Strait of Hormuz, or the military apparatus that holds everything Washington wants surrendered. The IRGC does. Hours after the talks collapsed, IRGC commander Ahmad Vahidi publicly accused Ghalibaf of betrayal for shaking hands with the American VP. That wasn't a private disagreement. It was a message to both Tehran and Washington. The IRGC banned missile program discussions before talks even began. They embedded vetoes inside the delegation. They operate under a decentralized command doctrine designed to survive regime decapitation, which it did after Khamenei was killed. That same doctrine makes binding diplomatic commitments structurally impossible. Vance couldn't get an affirmative commitment that Iran won't seek a nuclear weapon.
