Todays #blastfromthepast is another of Peter Tillemans drawings from the early 1700s this time a fascinating look at the Holy Sepulchre Church in #Northampton in 1719 before its major renovation by Sir George Gilbert Scott in the 1880s. Built around 1100 by Simon De St Liz following his return from the 1st Crusade, it is one of only 4 remaining Norman round churches in England and I highly recommend a visit on one of the open days. @SophieP25397 Indeed, it is also unfair to judge historical figures by todays standards. By today’s standards his Victorian mindset and attitude give dullards the opportunity to dismiss him as “racist” the truth is far more nuanced of course, just like with Ghandi.

I don't think #Churchill was the saint or the devil he is portrayed as being. He was the right man to be PM in 1940. Attlee was the right man to be PM in 1945.
