Testimony from our JT Fiscal Office likened a wealth tax to using a "thimble in the ocean" to resolve a $5.6 billion #unfundedliability. All possible solutions are on the table, including major #governance #reform. #VTLegislature doesn't control investments made, boards do.

While there was #pensions #underfunding by #VT decades back, in last 12 yrs state has contributed faithfully each yr to pay down unfunded liabilities by 2038 - paying nearly $1 billion into the system over past 5 years. This yr's pymt: $300m + 1x $150m, up from $200m last yr

We are working to save the #VT public #pensions system. On its present course it will likely fail, leaving teachers & state employees w/o retirement savings. We have an opportunity to make a sizable investment with #structuralreform to ensure a #pension system for the future.
