All of Christopher Nolan’s movies fit neatly within a secular, materialist view of reality. There are no spirits, gods, or the supernatural. So how will he handle making a movie of THE ODYSSEY where Greek gods & the supernatural are central? Nolan finally spoke about this: “One of the things I needed to crack was how to approach mythological elements in a sort of real-world way. The big breakthrough creatively in thinking about the gods was that everything that is now explained by science was once supernatural. Lightning, thunder, earthquakes, volcanoes... people are literally seeing gods everywhere; not even the evidence of gods, they're seeing the actions of gods. I don't want to say too much about it beyond indicating that yes, the evidence of the supernatural is all around these people. It's very much part of their lives. And I think it's quite a lot of fun to tap into that.” (Via: Empire Magazine)

A&M deserved to win that game. Too many dumb ND plays. Amazing poise displayed by the Aggies.

If you were to pick one player on the @NDFootball defense besides Leonard Moore that the nation will be talking about at the end of the year, who would you pick?

This is for real, guys. The Utah High School Football State Championship games for lower classifications today had a chopper fly in and drop the game ball instead of a coin toss. One player from each team fighting for possession. #UTPreps @KSLSports @UHSAAinfo

I'll shut up after this, but despite some improvement of late, political science continues to have a big issue with the study of right-wing politics. It's still being treated as a pathology by default, which means that there are huge blind spots in the literature.

@Tyler_A_Harper I have two essay exams, both three hours and handwritten, no notes. Solves the issue. Having no computers in the classroom also helps to prep them for it.

Fantastic thread. We have no answers to the LLM cheating problem. Our institutions have invested no substantive time finding solutions, and some have actively championed the fully braindead idea that LLMs are “learning tools.” Instead, everyone blames students for being “lazy.”

Second week of the semester and I've already had students use (and own up to using) ChatGPT to write their first assignment: "briefly introduce yourself and say what you're hoping to get out of this class". They are also using it to word the *questions they ask in class*.
