This year marks the 20th anniversary of Ashevegas, which started as a personal blog, morphed into a hyper-local news website, and continues now as an email newsletter (4 years on Substack). I’m still trying to decide how to mark the milestone.

Matt and Erin date on FOX News! WNC in the spotlight. I wish it was for our amazing coffee shops or chocolatiers. Instead, it is because we have a thing called tent city. Something that should not exist.

One caller asked for help finding her brother. Another needed info about evacuation routes. A third worried if a nearby dam was about to burst. And many callers said "I'm just so proud of my neighbors." Local radio in western North Carolina is a literal lifeline right now 🧵

This honestly was the most critical part IMO. Even with the pattern last week, there was no cold air, and snow cover is way below average well into Canada. The 500 mb pattern can only do so much with a cold/arctic surface air source.
