Something that always got me was when I was first watching aot s1 since the narrative presented that reiner was a reliable guy to us, I began to see him as a character who we could rely on during conflict. Same with mikasa or levi- while the rest of the cast struggled with

Adding onto this I do think eren spent a lot of time in Marley understanding the people before he killed them. Not just in the internment camp or the mental hospital but also the whole country itself- since he left at around 17 and was only in the internment camp for a month.

Titans, if mikasa or levi entered the scene I knew the situation wouldn’t end bad. I thought the same for Reiner ESPECIALLY when he saved armin from annie… he seemed like such a skilled and knowledgeable figure to the scouts and me, which makes his reveal all the more compelling
