State Minister for Foreign Affairs KUNIMITSU held a meeting with Hon. Major General K.P. Aruna JAYASEKARA (Retd.), Deputy Minister of Defence of Sri Lanka who is visiting Japan. Powering education with clean energy in #SriLanka With support from the Government of Japan @JapanEmb_SL , @UNDP and partners have deployed decentralized renewable energy solutions—from solar PV to biogas—across homes and public institutions in the Northern Province. 🔗 Read the regional story: undp.org/asia-pacific/s… At the heart of this effort, a rural school now runs on a solar PV system and a biogas unit, transforming teaching and learning: ICT‑based lessons are integrated with confidence, classrooms stay lit during exams and after hours, and savings from lower electricity costs are redirected to teaching materials—strengthening education quality. The initiative also builds local green skills: 391 people—75% women—have been trained to install and maintain these systems, helping meet the region’s rising demand for clean‑energy technicians.
