The purpose of the caveat at the beginning was to reinforce that both teams would have lost to Carolina, anyway (one not better than the other).
The rest had absolutely nothing to do with the Flyers. It was just a reminder about the CAR/PIT rs matchup.

To preface this, I think Carolina would've beaten either Philadelphia or Pittsburgh. But I don't think the Pens were dogwalked by Carolina in the regular season: Dec. 30: PIT win 5-1 Mar. 10: CAR SO win 5-4 Mar. 18: CAR OT win 6-5 Mar. 22: CAR win 5-1 Flip one OT/SO, it's even.

@kelsey_surmacz4 That’s fair, I see it both ways but if u have an opportunity to get younger at the top 6 wing position I say u go for it, we have a ton of cap space going into the summer, however I’m more concerned about the defense than offense

Malkin himself said "one more year" on several occasions yesterday, so I don't think term is an issue on his end.
And he flat-out said he's fine playing wing, so that's not an issue, either.
Malkin wants to come back. He's made that clear. The ball is entirely in Dubas's court.

@JayTac16 There's really no reason not to bring him back. He's not blocking anyone. He was above point-per-game this season. He's fine with playing wing. He's not asking for term, and based on past comments, he's probably not asking for money.
Literally no hurt in bringing him back.

People would do good to remember that Dan Muse was also a rookie head coach in these playoffs, and he, too, will learn from this experience.
He did an overwhelmingly fantastic job in his first season. He'll only grow and get better from here.

One last thing before I dive into some season analysis pieces:
I see a lot of takes about how this season and the playoff berth were "playing with house money." While I didn't expect this team to make the playoffs, I don't wholly agree with that.
Imo, this is a building block.

My biggest criticism of them this series was Dan Muse not changing up that top PP unit. It was malpractice. Should’ve changed it up after Game 2

The power play is what ultimately lost the series. Dreadful showing by that group. Probably cost them Game 2. Needed a goal in Game 6. Just never a threat in those games.
