If a chain goes down, art on that chain is in trouble. If the chain is offline, new transactions cannot be recorded. This includes the recording of change in ownership of tokens. While individual nodes may still have access to the historical data of the blockchain (up to the point it went offline), they cannot independently record new transactions. The consensus mechanism, which requires multiple nodes to validate and record transactions, would be non-functional. In such a scenario, even if you were to agree on a trade with someone else, there would be no way to execute the transaction on the blockchain. We’d be back to pre-blockchain digital art. Diversification is your friend as a collector and artist. If you feel you need to advocate for your chain, time to be honest with yourself.

I wonder if it’s possible after a chain dies if you can take the contract and migrate to another. I guess you’d have to do this before it shuts down.
