@JessCMartinMD No. I would switch into PAYE now and if new REPAYE becomes available later on switch into it. You want the ability to MFS now to have the most affordable payments.

Student loan/tax question for anyone that can help: if one is married and on the current REPAYE plan but hoping to file separately to exclude spouse income from student loan monthly payments, do we expect that the new REPAYE will be in place in time for that to happen?

@olsonplanner thank you so much - in this scenario, would it make sense to switch into PAYE to take advantage of filing separately from spouse to maximize lower monthly payments? Otherwise when payments restart, they would be higher than based on current single income

@olsonplanner Thank you so much for all your advice! Do you know where we stand on new REPAYE? My payments would restart at a higher amount because they previously took into account spouse’s income. We filed separately this year to lower payments, but I’m still on old REPAYE.

@reverendofdoubt @olsonplanner If on REPAYE and married now, having just filed separately to take advantage of only one income calculated into monthly payments, would you advise switching into PAYE before the July deadline?

@olsonplanner I’m assuming if the modified REPAYE doesn’t go through by the time we all have to start paying again, then PAYE if married probably makes the most sense?

@StudentLoanTrav @olsonplanner Additionally, would you recommend submitting recertification sooner if the previous monthly payments amount were higher (my prior payments included spouse income in calculation so would be significantly more than they would be with new REPAYE)?

Filing separately for PSLF purposes has two drawbacks: 1) you may lose some tax credits if you have kids. But often the loan payment reduction and subsequent forgiveness increase is worth it. 2) Roth contributions must use the Three Step Method.

@StudentLoanTrav @olsonplanner Thank you so much! Can you explain why it would not be updated if recertification was after April 2024? Or is that simply because we would have filed 2023 taxes before that point?

@Acyn Armed good guys did not stop this!! What are you paying attention to?? There were armed policeman at the scene. The one constant in all of these shootings is guns. So make it harder for people to get guns. It’s not hard to comprehend.

@CharlesWeh95 @HomaThaBrave @SenJoniErnst So by your logic, we should not even try to stop shootings from happening, to try to stop children from being murdered? We should just let it happen, because “it will happen anyways”? There is proof in other countries with stricter gun legislation that that is not the case.

@HomaThaBrave @SenJoniErnst Lol. Because criminals are just chomping at the bit to follow new gun control laws 🤦‍♂️ Tell me one criminal that follows laws passed by our government. I’ll wait.
