Our prayers will be with Linda, who was Kit’s constant partner, and Sam, of whom Kit was always and rightly so proud.

He had a relentless and penetrating intelligence, a commitment to public service, and a passion for improving the lives of the people he served. He was also my friend, and a great mentor throughout my service in the Senate.

Brenda and I are both saddened by the passing of Kit Bond. Missouri has produced many good politicians and public servants, but Kit was a statesman, whose decades of service left an indelible mark on our state and country.

She and I opposed each other in a hotly contested election, but Jean always conducted herself with the graciousness and dignity that characterized both her public and personal life. My prayers are with her family and all those who were privileged to be her friends.

All of us who love Missouri, and knew Jean Carnahan, will mourn at her passing. She was a woman of great heart who accomplished great things for her state and for those she loved.
