Though this is because it's also mostly an impossible idea b/c a real, convenient, meta news subscription wouldn't be just app and display based, but also web and print-based, allowing for paywalled hyperlinks. And that requires a cohesive web tech solution that is... daunting.

Pressreader is a great example of how print publication companies suck. It's a good idea that addresses common complaints from readers with simple and decent tech. But it's promotion and execution is just a shambles. Doesn't even say $39.99/MONTH. Just a random flat fee.
