@PROONS @HBO Yep that was the 1st big idea. I wanted to write a love story & we had this idea that they had known each other a long time ago, then we thought of a pact, and then came ‘RUN’, after a joke pact I had with Phoebe. From there it became obvious that the run is the 1st thing you see

@ColoredFrancie @HBO Yes! But not anyone I worked with directly, and certainly not HBO. They are totally unafraid of busting taboos.

@HBO @JonesDryWrite In developing the show, did anyone try to dissuade you from making Ruby a mother, thinking that some audiences wouldn’t forgive a woman character who makes the choice she does?

@DaliZhu1996 @HBO @phoebewallerbr1 I wrote 1 and 6, and as a showrunner you are very involved in all the other eps, the overall story, and in fact every aspect of the whole show.

@HBO @phoebewallerbr1 @JonesDryWrite Hi Vicky, I wonder if the information on Wikipedia(that only the first episode of this series is written by you)is real? Did you participate in the writing process of the following episodes? Thanks.

@MyNervAnna @HBO Fingers crossed on season 2! The backstory had to evolve a bit as we created the story but I knew who they were in my bones, as I had been thinking about them for 5years. I could hear their voices in my head, mixed with Merritt and Domhnall’s voices, and that stayed the same.

@TonyDollar @HBO It was a set! With brand new technology for the exterior of the windows. So we could take walls down and move things around, which made filming much easier. We only filmed the external train scenes on platforms which was hard because they’re always in use so we would start at 4am

@HBO @JonesDryWrite What was the most challenging part about working within the confines of a train for nearly an entire episode?

@juleswritesblog @HBO @nerdsandbeyond There was a moment filming the pilot, when the director, Kate Dennis and our brilliant DP, Matt Clarke were testing the lighting on Denise Pizzini’s perfect set, and Merritt & &Domhnall were running lines for that first scene, and I just went “ohhh…” and my shoulders dropped.

@LOHeurtebise @HBO One great comment I had was “they both masturbate in the toilet but we don’t see either of them washing their hands!” Hah. I hope it is some fun escapism for people - especially at this time, maybe a relief. Ruby and Billy run, so you don’t have to!

@HBO @JonesDryWrite #RUNHBO premiered right during this extra-ordinary time which is confinement and will most likely run nearly all the way through it. How do you think this influences and affects the way people are receiving the show and its premiss of running away from everyday's life?

It was the moment when our Production Designer Denise Pizzini gave me four different door handles which could break off a toilet door in 4 diff ways that I thought to myself “my god, this is actually real.”

The line from Laurence before she gets back on the train went through so many phases, because we didn’t want it to be obvious she was getting back on, but we also knew Laurence wasn’t an arsehole. That was so important for the story - that she doesn’t have a bad marriage.

The original line was ‘getting drunk in a bar of a crappy hotel on the coast of Clacton-On-Sea’, but we realised Billy couldn’t have made it from England in time!

There was much debate about how famous Billy was. In the end we decided he wasn’t as famous as he thought he was. Domhnall managed to play the hubris while still being loveable. Billy can laugh at himself.

@bychkovas @HBO Pretty close, at least the first episode is. Once it was commissioned, we needed a story! I had some ideas, but I’m not the best w. story. Luckily had @jennyabrock in my camp and also Phoebe. No spoilers, but yes, in it’s soul it is the project i originally dreamed of.
