HOST: Do you think Trump is pro-Russian? APPLEBAUM: I think he's pro-Putin. He admires leaders who have no checks and balances, who aren't part of democratic system, who are in control of the media. He also had very long business relationship with Russians. They were among the most important investors in his apartments in the 1990s and 2000s. He also has kind of idealized image of Russia. Funnily enough, I don't think it has anything to do with conservative values. I think it's just because he likes this strongman ideal. And because he's grateful to Russians for having built his business, and maybe because he expects to do business with Russia in the future.

It's two years since combat medic, Peter Fouché, was killed by ruzzians on the frontlines in Ukraine. Please remember him 🕯️ Pete's "I'm ashamed to be a Westerner" speech, from Feb 2024, should be added to the annals of great war speeches for all the wrong reasons! I still hear desperation in the voices of 🇺🇦 volunteers and fundraisers today so keep donating to verified orgs supporting the Ukrainian war effort!

⛽️ Gasoline crisis in Russia: fuel shortages have already gripped much of the country, - @DrnBmbr In many regions, limits of 20–40 liters in one hand are in force, refueling from canisters is prohibited, and long queues regularly appear at gas stations. In general, fuel problems are already recorded in about 50–60 regions of Russia. As of the end of June 2026: • more than 20 attacks on refineries since the beginning of the year; • 8 of the 10 largest refineries in Russia have already been attacked; • 25% of oil refining capacity has been shut down; • ≈25% drop in gasoline production; • 50–60 regions already have fuel shortages or restrictions on fuel sales.

.@elonmusk says that no one can name a person who died from his aid cuts. In fact, I've met the kids who are dying, and I've talked to the families who lost children. In my columns, I've cited many, many names of people who have died because of Musk's aid cuts. A few examples: *Yamah Freeman was a 23-year-old woman who died in childbirth because Musk cut funding for the diesel for ambulances in her part of Liberia. She couldn't get to a hospital and died as people were carrying her there. I talked to her parents and sister in their village. *Gbessey Kiadu, age 1, died of malaria because of his cuts to malaria medication in Liberia. I talked to his mom in her village. *Ibrahim Koroma, an infant, died of AIDS in Sierra Leone after he interrupted HIV supplies. I talked to health workers who cared for him. *Achol Deng was an 8-year-old girl with HIV in South Sudan who died when Musk cut funding for the health care worker who provided her medicines. I talked to the healthcare workers. I could go on and on. In almost every village you go to in South Sudan, Uganda, Liberia, Sierra Leone or other countries I reported in, you find people dying because of aid cuts. I challenge Musk: Come with me on a reporting trip, and we'll talk to these moms and dads, and you'll see the dying children themselves. I think if you see the kids whose lives are at stake, maybe you'll change your mind.
Elon Musk@elonmusk

Exactly. And they cannot cite a single name of someone who died out of the “millions” they falsely claim have died. Not a single name!

Gasoline crisis in russia: shortages are now spreading across much of the country. Long lines at fuel stations, purchase limits, and empty pumps. Ukrainian drones keep striking refineries — and it’s actually working. But it still isn’t enough. God bless Ukrainian sanctions.

Russia lies about absolutely everything, turning deception into a core state policy. With a regime built entirely on constant fabrications, how could we ever trust a single word they say again? Russia lied about the "separatists" in Eastern Ukraine back in 2014. They claimed they were just local rebels when it was actually the Russian army leading the charge. Back then, many in the West seriously argued they weren't Russian troops, but everyone knows the truth now. They shamelessly lied about downing the Malaysian Airlines plane. Today, the world knows with absolute certainty that it was a Russian Buk anti-air system that downed it. They spent an entire year moving mass amounts of troops to the border while explicitly promising they had no plans of attacking Ukraine. They maintained that exact lie until the very last day before launching a full-scale invasion, followed by immediate lies about why they were attacking. When they got decisively defeated around Kyiv, they lied again, calling their chaotic retreat a "gesture of goodwill." A year later, they even changed that lie into a brand new one, claiming they withdrew because Ukraine was about to sign a peace deal in Istanbul. Everyone knows Russia would never withdraw pre-emptively before any papers are signed. They didn't leave out of kindness or diplomacy. They simply got defeated. Since then, they have just been repeating the same old fabrications, proving there is zero reason to trust anything as long as this regime is in power

1/ In another sign of worsening economic problems in Russia, a fifth of the fleets of the country's largest airlines have been taken out of operation. The idling of the aircraft has been blamed on equipment failures and extended maintenance incurred by the effect of sanctions. ⬇️

Q: How did you know back in 2008 that Ukraine would be next? Kasparov: I just listened to Putin. In 2005 he declared the collapse of the Soviet Union was the greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century. In Munich 2007 he told Bush and Western leaders — NATO must go back to 1997 borders. After the war against Georgia in 2008 I wrote — next is Ukraine. People asked how I knew. I looked at the map. He published the Novorossiya map himself. Putin's plans to restore the Russian Empire were never a secret. He always told everyone exactly what he would do.

😂 This is just great! 😂 "To the people of Crimea and the residents of the DPR and LPR: because of you, we have nothing but problems in Russia. We were doing just fine before 2014, until you asked to become part of Russia. Since then, the country has been on a downward spiral. Yes, I understand that you personally are not to blame. But it was your Vatnik attitudes that prompted Putin to begin this whole campaign of gathering the Russian lands. Tell me, why couldn't you just live peacefully as part of Ukraine? It wasn't Putin who first lit the flames of war — it was you. And on top of that, you betrayed your own country — Ukraine!"

SNYDER: I think Ukrainians revolutionized warfare to extent that's not fully appreciated. We’ve reached the point where coal miners from Donbas are now in Arab countries defending other people from drone attacks. There’s a reason for that. Ukrainians are in a class of their own.

HODGES: I think for Putin, nightmare scenario is what now appears to be change in momentum in favor of Ukraine becoming irreversible momentum. With loss of his ability to export oil and gas, more open pushback or lack of support for his war by Russian oligarchs and influencers. And then even probably when Europe begins to stop these shadow-fleet vessels that are taking oil and gas out through Baltic Sea and Black Sea to customers. When those things are happening, I think he will realize that it's over. It's going to be over for him.
