Yaxel banged up, no LJ Cason since the end of February, game played at a UConn pace where they go 2/15 from 3 + are beaten on the boards & they still found a way to control the game. UConn makes you guard like crazy & Michigan took it to task + exploited UConn’s foul tendencies.

Michigan was just an absolute monster this season. Dusty May perfectly executed the vision he had for this roster. Size gave them such a high defensive floor & they complemented it w/ depth & spacing that gave them multiple ways to win. Worthy champs for an awesome year of hoops.

It was a quiet night for the rest of the East roster. Latrell Allmond was the most effective big, scoring 8 & playing w/ a high motor. Bruce Branch hit both his 2s but missed all 4 3PAs, though he added 4 rebs & 2 blks. Anthony Thompson had a few flashes but just 5 pts (2-6 FGs)

Deron Rippey & Taylen Kinney weren’t overly efficient today, but each had a couple nice flashes. Rippey’s burst & ability to touch the paint stood out & he also put up 5 rebs & 4 asts. Meanwhile, Kinney drained a stepback 3 + picked off a pass & drove into the lane for the finish

The West wins the McDonald’s All-American Game 102-86. The West was up 6 heading into the 4th & dropped 36 in the final period, blowing the game open with a monster start to the quarter. Caleb Holt & Jason Crowe Jr. were named co-MVPs. Full scouting notes/thoughts to follow soon.

Jamier Jones, Larry Johnson & Shelton Henderson finished this season ranked 3rd, T5th & 7th respectively in dunks by all players listed at 6’6” or shorter. That trio also ranks 2nd, T6th & 10th respectively in dunks among all freshmen this season regardless of height.

Jamier Jones wasn’t the only one to usurp players on this list this season. Larry Johnson finished the season with 43 dunks to end up 9th on this list (2nd among RS FR) and Shelton Henderson ended with 42 dunks, good for a tie for 10th place on the list

Updating this, Jamier Jones finished the season with 54 dunks in 31 games. That’s the 4th most dunks by a freshman listed at 6’6” or shorter since 2009-10. Jones’ 62 dunk attempts rank 2nd for most attempts in a season among this group, behind Zhaire Smith’s 70 in 2017-18.
Josh Markowitz@Josh_markowitz

Last night Jamier Jones recorded his 30th dunk of the season in just his 15th game. In the Torvik era only 18 other freshmen listed at 6’6” or shorter have posted that many dunks and they all played at least 28 games. He’s on pace to top Zhaire Smith’s 63 dunk mark from 2017-18.
