Apple to Close Three Stores, Including First Unionized Location, Prompting Union-Busting Claims Apple is closing three retail stores in Towson, Maryland; Trumbull, Connecticut; and Escondido, California, with all closures scheduled for June 11, according to a statement provided to The Baltimore Sun. The Towson store is notable as the company’s first unionized retail location, where workers voted to organize in 2022. The company said the decision was driven by changes in surrounding retail conditions and the departure of other businesses from the affected malls, adding that employees at two of the locations will be transferred to nearby stores or offered other roles. However, workers at the Towson store were not offered transfers due to collective bargaining rules, according to Apple, prompting the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers to accuse the company of union-busting and abandoning employees.
