Zimbabwe players getting contracts to play domestic cricket in Pakistan is progress but development doesn’t happen on the bench. Ryan Burl has played 1 game. Brian Bennett hasn’t played at all in 4. For someone like Bennett, you can at least argue exposure, being around top players in the Pakistan Super League, learning environments, dressing-room standards—that still adds value early in his career. But for Burl? That argument fades. He’s not a prospect—he’s a player whose been in the circuit long enough and needs game time, not observation. Sitting him out doesn’t develop him, it just wastes a resource. And it raises a bigger question: Are Zimbabwe players still not trusted enough in these leagues? Because the issue doesn’t look like talent—it looks like hesitation. They’re good enough to be signed, but not trusted enough to be played.

Even though it was a rotated 🇿🇼 Zimbabwe team minus most overseas based pros (although Tapiwa Mafura of Lions was playing) and in warm up mode after no matches for 10 months for 🇿🇲 Zambia to be coming within 12 vs an opponent ranked 40 places ahead of them is a credible effort.

Final score at Harare Sports Club: Zimbabwe Sables 🇿🇼 43-31 Zambia 🇿🇲 A scrappy but effective win for the Zimbabwe side who took the opportunity to dust off the cobwebs and test the squads depth. We go again next week in preparation for some big international fixtures abroad in June.

More than 520 runs bueing scored altogether is crazy business but thats how cricket is evolving. Batting is more important than bowling evolve or become irrelevant

What will it take for Cricket Zimbabwe’s domestic tournaments to attract BIG sponsorships like what soccer is doing right now? Soccer is making all the right noises with ambitious talks of league winners getting $3M+ deals to retain talent and grow the game. Meanwhile, cricket is over reliant on the cricketing board for funding with only the T10 tournament being something to smile about alone. If you dont play for the Chevrons you will never earn well enough and this can make the game not attractive at grassroots level. What do we need to do to gain sponsorship and grow the game locally and make prize pools attractive. Not everyone can make it to the national team but club level should be enough to pay the bills and make it a lucrative career.

Cricket isn't just loved in Harare @ZimCricketv ! Why the continuous neglect of other cities like Mutare, Gweru, Bulawayo & Masvingo? Grounds are dying, talent is hidden, and opportunities remain locked in the capital. If we truly want Zimbabwe to become a real cricket powerhouse, we must spread the love nationwide. Build proper facilities, academies & leagues in every province. Where investment is made, dividends will surely follow — more players, bigger crowds, stronger Chevrons. No more Harare-centric cricket. Let's grow the game for ALL Zimbabweans! #ZimCricket #SpreadTheGame"

New: The agent representing Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani has hit back in response to the Zimbabwean star being banned by the Pakistan Super League for two years. This followed an alleged breach of contract by Muzarabani who snubbed the PSL for the IPL. The statement says that Muzarabani never held a contract with Islamabad United.

Confidence is building for an England Test-ODI tour of Zimbabwe ahead of next year’s World Cup. England have not toured Zimbabwe since 2004. There could be more incentive for teams to play Zimbabwe, who may be part of a 12-team World Test Championship cricketfj.com/p/exclusive-co…

"In T20 cricket, batting follows a simple structure: openers set the foundation, middle order maintains momentum, and finishers take us over the line or post a winning total." I beg to differ with your take above @Julery16. Thats an archaic approach. In T20 cricket the top order (1-3) sets the tone not the 'foundation'; middle order consolidate and takes us over the line.

Is Zim cricket really ready to compete at the highest level, or are we just ignoring the massive elephant in the room? With big tours from India (T20Is in July) and Australia (ODIs in September) on the horizon, the timing couldn't be more critical. In T20 cricket, batting follows a simple structure: openers set the foundation, middle order maintains momentum, and finishers take us over the line or post a winning total. Our openers: Bennett, Marumani, Taylor/Myers. Middle order: Raza and Burl. Finishers: Tashinga and Tony (even Brad Evans, some may say). My fear is our finishers leave us heavily exposed. Their strike rates (108.84 and 128.57) are too low — even our openers can better them. This leaves us short on runs and often unable to post winning totals. Raza and Burl usually rescue the innings if the young openers fail, or consolidate if they set a platform. But now they're also forced to provide the late surge — that's too much heavy lifting. If they get out in the 15th over, the innings effectively dies because the remaining finishers' strike rates aren't good enough (108-128). In this modern age of T20, if our finishers have strike rates that even our openers outperform, should we start thinking about a squad shake-up... or just trust the process?

@Julery16 In modern day T20, “finishers” have ceased to exist. You just need a top 6/7 that can easily bat at 150 + strike rate to set ‘good’ totals

Zimbabwean overseas players are finding game time hard to come by. Blessing Muzarabani has seen himself benched for the 3rd straight game running in the IPL. He left his PSL spot for this IPL chance with KKR but is this decision starting to look like a mistake or is it premature to tell. Other Zimbabwean players like Ryan burl and Brian bennet are also finding game time hard to come by. Apart from Sikandar Raza will we see more Overseas Zim players in action or will we have to wait until international cricket rocks into full gear again.
