Peter Obi need to know that he is from a minority voting bloc, in politics one has to be patient, even a Tinubu that is from a zone that is twice of Obi had to follow the NW particularly to get to where he wanted. But the moment the conversation shifted to serving as Peter Obi’s running mate, many people began to ask: what exactly is Kwankwaso doing? This is not because northerners hate political alliances. The North has always understood coalition politics. The issue is the symbolism. Peter Obi is not just another politician in the eyes of many northern voters. He carries heavy political baggage among people who still remember the controversies around his time as Anambra governor, including allegations about treatment of northerners, religious tensions, demolitions, and the wider perception that his politics has never shown deep emotional connection with the North. Whether Obi’s supporters like it or not, perception matters in politics. And in the North, perception can become electoral reality very quickly.
