@tomallenstevens I think we are quite happy with our approach. The vast amount of innovation is unseen due to commercial sensitivity. There are a huge number of new molecules being discovered globally. What will make it to the UK market is obviously different.

@KevisStuart The ref to 1882 was taken from the article I cited. Not denying there’s been huge growth in productivity since but it has stagnated. Big Ag is largely to blame. Your approach simply doesn’t work today. Having staff from farming families is not the same as innovating with farmers.

"The announcement [that Syngenta is ceasing production of paraquat] reopens a bigger conversation: why is agriculture still relying on chemistries invented in the 19thC to 21stC weed resistance?" Good question & good riddance to paraquat agtechnavigator.com/Article/2026/0…

@tomallenstevens Disagree. Not discovered as a herbicide until 1955 by ICI. Without R&D no synthetic fertilizer, plant breeding and pesticides, so wheat yields at 2.5 t/ha like pre WW2? Loads of innovation going on in ag at the moment. Most R&D have people from farming families.

@KevisStuart Apparently it was first synthesised in 1882. Failure rests squarely with commercial R&D. Tighter regulation forces you to innovate better. Perhaps if you were prepared to collaborate & co-create with farmers we cd have made more progress together

We should all eat British food wherever we can. When customers choose to buy British, selecting a product either bearing the Union Jack flag or saying ‘Made in Britain’, it should mean exactly that. Currently, food grown overseas – yet merely assembled or packaged here – CAN fly the flag or be described as ‘British’. Today, I am announcing that the @Conservatives will CLOSE the flag loophole and make food origin labelling clearer, so that consumers can be SURE that they’re buying British food which is actually grown and produced in our country. British farmers and food producers are crucial to our nation’s food security, feeding the nation with high-standard produce. By making origin labelling clearer and simpler, we can encourage consumers to eat more British-made food and in doing so, support our farmers. Let’s eat for Britain!

Every season throws up new challenges – weather, weed pressure, crop stage. 🌱 Timings may shift, but as @WeedSciJohn reminds us, having a clear product sequencing plan is the best way to stay on top of weeds in autumn. @ADASGroup

@Jes_Squirrell @tomallenstevens @WeedSciJohn @DavidComont Closer to a bit of everything probably. Where systems have gone from glyphosate + primary cultivation + secondary cultivation + good weeding action from the drill to just glyphosate, that is putting huge pressure on glyphosate. But as always other things, time and costs factor.

@KevisStuart @WeedSciJohn @DavidComont Not really an option if you’re Regen, & it buries the problem rather than address it. We are hopelessly dependent on herbicides. It’s not sustainable. That is the issue to address.

It’s chaos out there, there’s at least a 0.0025 cms covering of snow on this car. I hope @BBCNews are going to cover these dramatic weather scenes. #snow
