Good News! The #molecularcloning my #undergraduateresearcher has been working on this summer has worked and she has successfully put together the parts for a new biosensor! (Hopefully once the biosensor is in cells it works... 😆)

This morning I wrote on my to do list "get gas". However, when I checked it right now I thought it said "get G(alpha)s" and I thought, "I'm not doing any #GPCR experiments right now...?"

Spent time #troubleshooting an assay with my technician @kevin_slye and made significant progress figuring out what was going wrong! And it felt good to be in the #lab again using my hands. Gotta keep the #pipetting skills sharp!

@aliciaandrz I hear this. Just finished my 3rd year and put in a lot of extra emotional energy (although I didn't fully realize it) Those few negative reviews brought the tears - and "knowing better" than taking them personally doesn't stop us from taking it personally!

final grades are in & I'm already feeling sick about getting my evaluation reports tomorrow. even though the good comments far outweigh the bad, the cruelty of a handful of students always stuns me. sometimes I think evals are the biggest obstacle to me becoming a better prof

At DiscoverBMB a colleague told me their students asked them their favorite amino acid and they didn’t really have an answer. Mine is histidine, hands down. Am I the only one that feels this passionately about a specific building block?

An aspect of this job I was unprepared for is the pace at which I have to make decisions: some small and some huge. I am thankful for those who help me make choices, learn from them, and forgive myself when I get it wrong. Everyday is a fresh start - give yourself grace #NewPI

@QuinaScience Recently I was thinking about the difficulty of switching from referring to colleagues by first name to "Dr" when talking to students, & then it hit... Is this the mental burden of code switching (but code switching being 10bill x worse?) And that's just the mental burden...?
