Calling this proof of one politician’s failure is far too simplistic. Denby’s problems did not begin today, and they did not begin with @RachelReevesMP . The company itself said it had faced three years of weak demand, rising employment costs and soaring industrial energy costs, and it filed its notice of intention to appoint administrators on 11 March 2026 while trying to find new investment or restructuring. Reporting today also notes Denby had already been rescued from administration before, and that it ultimately failed to secure the strategic investment it needed. Being long-established is not the same thing as being a great business in its current form. A respected heritage brand, yes. But a genuinely great business also has to be financially resilient, properly capitalised and well managed. When a business has been in difficulty, brings in new investors, and still does not get the backing or turnaround it needs, that is a business failure first, not simply a slogan for party politics.
