One of the grand, tragic ironies of being a Republican voter is, if I did not actually know the poison pill in the Democrat proposal, I'd still know this proposal was a steaming pile of crap with an unacceptable caveat simply because the Senate GOP tried to go along with it.
Sheldon Whitehouse@SenWhitehouse
For the umpteenth time Democrats said YES to funding TSA — no conditions, just YES — and Senate Republicans tried to go along, and TRUMP SAID NO.

@shellenberger Oh, FFS. Tyler Robinson is going to go free or get a slap on the wrist because Candace Owens and a few other kickstarted this bullshit, isn't he?
It is shocking how despicable these people are.
English

@djairrick Great! They've been raping the franchise. No new Trek is vastly preferable.
English

This is how dumb these guys are... with this show failing they most likely will NOT make anymore Star Trek TV for a long time... you guys did this to yourselves... so things like Strange New Worlds wont happen if you dont let other things on the menu

You can argue and attack the fans. Or swallow your pride and realise you should listen to them.

@HenMazzig I have some other suggested news organization facilities to add to the list.
We'll intercept them. But I know several dozen "journalistic" institutions that could use the wake up call of being targeted.

I won't be killed. Because I will obey the law enforcement officer, I can provide multiple different proofs that I am a US citizen on short notice and ID on demand, and I will not be an agitator in a dangerous crowd.
In short, I'm a law-abiding US citizen, I can prove it easily, and I'm not going to act like a retard intensifying any situation.
I don't know. Maybe it is because I have relatives who are police officers, so I just have inside perspective and baseball, but it is really, really, really, stupidly easy to not get shot by law enforcement. It is easier than breathing in allergy season.
If I am, for some reason, still wrongfully detained in excess of legal authority or I am mistreated, I will have the mother of all lawsuits on my hands, and it is in my best interest to cooperate fully and respectfully now, and seek out a lawyer later so my payday is as large as possible and as airtight as possible.
As far as showing papers, that is not what ICE is doing now, and even if it was, I have to show my ID to get onto my job site every week day, then show it again to get into any building on the job site. I have to show an ID to get on an airplane. I have to show it if asked by a law enforcement officer while out driving. I have to show it to buy certain no-no beverages. I have to show it to buy a firearm. And a bunch of other places frequently in my life. Showing my papers is not hard, and it is not an overwhelming trampling of rights.

@Kit_Shicker @smalls2672 "small government conservative" wants to live in a state where he's killed if he doesn't show his papers at every checkpoint.
English

Crazy how many "freedom loving small government conservatives" want a complete police state. These ppl are the biggest bootlicking pussies I've ever seen.
Oilfield Rando@Oilfield_Rando
To be clear, I want ICE everywhere. Airports. The Social Security office. The DMV. Water parks. Grocery stores. Truck stops. The tiddy bars. Can you imagine how much that would improve the experience everywhere?
English

@Kit_Shicker @smalls2672 There’s a wide berth between Anarchy and Police State, dude.
English

Damnit. Stop making me sound like a bleeding heart liberal...
Then PAY THEM MORE! Then CREATE A BETTER TALENT DEVELOPMENT SYSTEM!
Skilled tradesmen doing dangerous work should be receiving substantially more money than Starbucks baristas. Nothing against Starbucks baristas, but we are talking two different levels of skillsets and risks.
I like physical labor and working with my hands. It scratches some weird man brain itch. There is no damn way I'd ever do this job unless I was out of options because the pay is way too low and the path to becoming truly skilled and a master of the craft is a messy disaster.
This is corporations being too damn lazy and/or focused on short-term goals to invest in a long-term talent pool, talent cultivation, and commensurate compensation practice because they think as far ahead as the next quarterly report and annual C-suite bonuses.

Shipyards desperately need welders, pipefitters, and other skilled workers. But this work is grueling and dangerous. cbsn.ws/4bIyP6O

Republicans control the house and senate you dumb fuck
Homeland Security@DHSgov
Thank a Democrat.

Why is it oxymoronic?
Small can mean size (as in number of personnel and amount of property) or it can mean breadth (as in number of responsibilities it is allowed). Or it can mean both.
Small government, in conservative circles, typically just means a government with substantially limited, well-defined scope and responsibilities (there are conservatives who are exceptions due to fiscal hawkishness or some libertarian angles).
Border and immigration enforcement would fall clearly within that scope for most small government conservatives I know, including myself, and is internally consistent with the theory of government that typically drives the mindset.
If the government were deploying law enforcement to make sure shower heads have proper flow limiters nationwide, that would yield a different response from small government conservatives because most think shower flow rates are not the purview of the federal government.
English

@Kit_Shicker @smalls2672 “Small Government” and “Heavy law enforcement presence” are oxymoronic unless you’re doing the whiskey rebellion or some shit, to which no comparable event is currently happening in America besides general retardation from Trump and his peons
English

This is a geniusly horrifying mod. More details in the OP replies.

@BraddrofliT I often wish the Republican party was a fraction as devious and competent as the left thinks it is.
Dude. Republicans, with full control of the government, can't pass a bill that over 80% of the country supports. You think these dipshits could successfully pull off page 159?
English

@Kit_Shicker Okay. But what the quoted person is suggesting is not, by anyone's definition, "small" government.
English

No. You can be against ICE agents in those places. That's fine and defensible. I was correcting the notion that being in favor of small government necessarily means being against heavy law enforcement presence. That's one of many strawman arguments that is severely hampering the left's ability to counter the right's bad impulses.
Small government preference =/= anarchy. Therefore support for laws and law enforcement can be internally, logically consistent with small government principles.
The left has a serious issue in not having a theory of mind for the right at an institutional level.
English

@Kit_Shicker @smalls2672 Not wanting armed. anonymous and unaccountable government thugs in coffee shops and gyms is anarchism?
English

..." - according to an anonymous source familiar with the situation.
Anonymous sources have an agenda in leaking their information, and it is not telling the American people the truth. This anonymous source launders the information, true, partially true, or outright false, to the journalist they think will most correctly use the information to fulfill their agenda. The journalist plays along because they a. don't want to lose a source that makes them special and b. want dirt that people will read.
The incentive structure for anonymous sources is ENTIRELY pointed to dubious ends. The only thing that would yield a truthful, informative, not manipulative output is the integrity of the anonymous politician who leaked it and/or the journalist. Two professions whose collective integrity is substantially lower than that of prostitutes and conmen.
Without independent verification or a named source whose reputation and trust is staked on the veracity, this is no better than fan fiction.

And? Hitler had good points about highway networks and school for young children, and he was an evil motherfucker. So, a rational person looks at his views on highway networks and schools for kids and says, "huh, a broken clock is right twice a day." Then looks at gassing minorities and especially Jews and goes, "huh, some clocks are really fucking broken."
A truth or truism does not cease to be that just because an evil motherfucker said it.
English

Wouldn't it just be easier to ... you know, fund the TSA?
Jake Sherman@JakeSherman
TRUMP says if ICE is not "enough" in the airports, he'll "bring in the National Guard."
English

It appears you've been infected with a disease named Trump Derangement Syndrome.
A particularly nasty symptom is anyone standing in opposition to Trump on any topic automatically receives a +19 to their trustworthiness rolls in your mind.
It is sane to distrust your government and to assume they are putting a positive spin on everything. It is insane to trust the literal enemy's propaganda to their own people because you distrust your politicians.
Had you said, "I am skeptical of Trump's optimism and accuracy in his claims of negotiations and potential deals," or even, "I don't believe the Trump administration." That is sane. I'm a Trump supporter, and I don't trust what comes from his administration at face value. You had to go that extra step further though. That is the telltale symptom of mortal TDS. Talk to your doctor about touching grass.
