Days 72-75 As my daughter has recuperated from oral surgery, I've done some recuperating of my own. I've taken time off from social media and just focused on catching up on some rest and making sure she had what she needed. She got labs today and it was shocking! A1C is now at 7.2!! Down from 15.1 just 4 months ago. That's HUGE!! Blood Sugars Her morning fasting blood sugars over the past 4 days have ranged from 86-108. No metformin. No fast-acting insulin. She hasn't had her CGM on so I've only been checking her in the morning with the glucometer. She's been taking her 10u long-acting insulin twice a day. Blood Pressure Her blood pressures have been around 106/80 sitting up in bed and 90/58 after being up walking. She's had a couple of appointments and did feel a little lightheaded walking into the office, but her BP was stable. Bowel Movements She hasn't been taking as many enzyme capsules as she normally does, and her bowel movements have decreased. She's now having an average of 3 per day, and they're starting to look more normal. I hope this trend continues 🙏 Oral Surgery & Dentures She's had no facial bruising, the swelling in her gums is already going down, and the stitches are already starting to fall out. She's been eating regular soft foods and doing just fine. She had a dental appointment yesterday so they could check to make sure the denture molds fit. But, they said that since her teeth are gone and her gums are shaved down, they have to do the molds over again. So, they're going to wait 4 weeks until all of the swelling is completely gone. That means probably no dentures until the end of May. Her Shin Injury We finally got her into an orthopedic urgent care. She does have a tibia fracture. Luckily, it is aligned, so they don't think she needs rod placement surgery. Basically, they put a cast on it and told her to rest it. They'll take an MRI, then probably take the cast off in 2 weeks and place a boot. She has to stay off of it for a minimum of 4-6 weeks. So, just rest and elevate. No bearing any weight. Same thing we were already doing, we just didn't have a cast to hold it in place and it was causing her some discomfort during PT. I think it's so interesting that her severe malnourishment caused such fragile bones. I've never seen the bones of a 30-year-old break so easily simply from short falls. Last year, it was her femur after a ground-level fall on a concrete sidewalk. Now, her tibia, after a ground-level fall on a carpeted floor. It's probably going to take a long time before her bones are healthy and dense again. Luckily, her Vitamin D is great, and she's now getting some very good nutrients. Her body has been starving for the right foods. Coming up next week is another follow-up with her doctor, follow-up with her psych NP, follow-up with the orthopedic trauma team, and her eye surgery consultation. One day at a time 🙏
