@zundamotisuki Same in the UK. In Poland the long march through the institutions has been much slower, so you can still find magazines untouched by neo-Marxists. But the TV, radio and culture have been almost entirely taken over.

Cieszę się, że mogłem je przypomnieć. Pochodzą sprzed dobrych kilkunastu lat, ale sprawdziłem - wciąż tam są. Pamiętam, że kiedy słuchałem ich po raz pierwszy, zrobiły na mnie ogromne wrażenie. Nieczęsto zdarza się artysta o tak głębokim czuciu muzyki i jeszcze umiejętności porywającego mówienia o niej.

Mam wrażenie, że w okresie Wielkiego Tygodnia genialny Bach spycha nieco na drugi plan innych. W 1706 r. George Frideric Handel (wtedy jeszcze Georg Friedrich Händel) wyjechał do Włoch. Miał 21 lat. Pracował tam m.in. dla kardynała Ottoboniego (dla którego skomponował też zbiór kantat). To na jego zamówienie w bardzo szybkim tempie w 1708 r. powstało oratorium "La Resurrezione", którego premiera odbyła się 1 kwietnia tamtego roku, czyli dwa dni temu minęło od niej 318 lat. Mam szczęście posiadać w płytotece prawdziwego białego kruka - wydanie L'Oiseau-Lyre z The Academy of Ancient Music i Christopherem Hogwoodem, ze zjawiskową Emmą Kirkby, nagranie zarejestrowane w 1981 r. To reedycja z 1988 r., dzisiaj praktycznie nie do zdobycia.

Much as I agree, this sort of complaining is rather pointless. It's like complaining that some people use the internet to make money selling their perversities online rather than to learn something useful. The way people use technology simply exposes who they really are. That's just it.

Ricky Gervais is already sick of AI. Not the technology itself — but the endless stream of witless twats posting fake war clips, fake muggings, and fake fights just to farm attention. His rant is pure gold: “What’s the f.... point? Everyone knows it’s fake.” He even compared it to cave paintings — the first humans probably lying on the wall about killing a mammoth too. It’s funny because it’s true. The most powerful new tool we’ve ever created, and a huge chunk of people immediately use it to lie and chase clout. Made me laugh and sigh at the same time. Anyone else already exhausted by the flood of obviously fake AI content?

I'm re-reading one of my very favourite books - Fernando Pessoa's 'The Book of Disquiet' yet again, before I tackle its editor and translator Richard Zenith's monumental biography, 'Fernando Pessoa: An Experimental Life'.

You're absolutely right, Steve, he is. And much as I love his writing - as much as I love Saramago - the older I get, the more I realise that some writers dramatize human existence for the drama’s sake, rather than because they carry the same profound, painful weight as Franz Kafka or Bruno Schulz. Try Gombrowicz’s Diary - it’s like phenomenal existential smelling salts. That said, I’m not calling Pessoa one of those dramatists. Far from it. His writing is something one should return to regularly, much like Eliot, Pound or Proust. All I’m really saying is that it can be wise to keep some distance from overdramatizing the human condition.

@KonradWalewski I find an awful lot of his writing could be my own thoughts and feelings transcribed. He's incredibly moving.
