@5tuartreeves True. Always the new trends, first seen at #chi. But it seems with #AI/#LLM it is worse compared to other trends. Maybe we need a new sub committee. #AI will stay with us #skynet #hal

@courtneynreed1 @RaphaelWimmer @acm_chi Good point. #Funding. Also the whole competition with Startups like @OpenAI. #research should benefit humanity and not only add the current trend. But yes, research should also be fun. We should still critically reflect if we NEED to add any new fancy trend.

Lets see how many papers at #CHI2025 @acm_chi will have a focus on #AI, #LLM, #GenAI or a combination of all of them. This trend is hijacking all of our research (it feels this way).

@RaphaelWimmer @acm_chi I fully agree. Trends and sexy topics are usually part if the conference. But imho, such a dominating usage of #LLM and #AI (in varying degrees) have I not seen With any other new hot technology.

@Kostic86 @acm_chi These trends have always been there, no? Once a new technology becomes widely available, more people will explore it. VR, iPhone, interactive tabletops, the web, ... These fads *are* annoying, especially because they incentivize quick, low-quality pubs and take away resources .
