“Digital arrests” don’t work because Indians are gullible. They work because fear of SYSTEM feels real. When people believe police can pick you up without notice, without paperwork, without explanation why wouldn’t they comply with a call that sounds official? ( daily cases of real police doing this). From doctors to businessmen, young to old, this cuts across education levels. This isn’t just a scam problem. It’s a credibility problem. Until due process is seen to be followed not just written in the Code of Criminal Procedure people will continue to choose fear over verification. We might judge the victim but in reality they want to be entangled with the system even if they have to lose everything they have earned.

Today, I saw a 44 year old lady wheel chair bound, multiple health conditions polio paralysed her long ago. Her sole care giver is her 80 year old father. He also takes care of his 2 other adult children with muscular dystrophies. I cant say how I felt, when the old man took out file after file and explained everything to me, while reassuring the daughter so lovingly. I wasnt prepared to see this.
