Artemis II has lifted off! The Orion spacecraft has begun its ten-day mission, reaching a distance of approximately 7,400 km from the Moon. Orion, equipped with #ESA’s European Service Module (#ESM), is also travelling with #Leonardo technologies: #LeonardoSpace supplied the photovoltaic panels (#PVA) and the Power Control and Distribution Units (#PCDU), Thales Alenia Space provided the structure and critical subsystems, and Telespazio is supporting vehicle tracking during its journey through the antennas of the Fucino Space Center. Roberto Cingolani, CEO and GM of Leonardo, commented the successful launch of Artemis II: "Space is increasingly proving to be strategic for geopolitical equilibria and global security. We are moving from a logic of exploration to that of an enabling infrastructure capable of generating data and critical capabilities also for Earth. As the Artemis II mission prepares for launch, a new chapter in human space exploration is taking shape. A crewed mission of four astronauts, aboard the Orion spacecraft, will fly around our natural satellite, marking a decisive step towards humanity’s return to the Moon. The @NASAArtemis program, developed by @NASA in partnership with the @ESA, sees Italy among the key contributors, with a central role played by the Italian Space Agency (@ASI_spazio). #Leonardo, together with the joint ventures @telespazio and @Thales_Alenia_S, is supporting the mission through strategic technologies. #StayTuned

🆕 e-GEOS, part of @LDO_Space, has been awarded a contract by @MASE_IT for the satellite-based mapping of asbestos cement across Italy. 🛰️ The project leverages very high-resolution multispectral satellite imagery combined with advanced Artificial Intelligence algorithms to remotely detect asbestos roofing, supporting subsequent assessments by specialists. 🤝 In this initiative, e-GEOS leads an Italian consortium including MapSat, @planetek and @uni_cassino. 📸 The following image, acquired from the high-resolution multispectral WorldView-2 satellite by Vantor, showcases an example of asbestos cement characterization, with detected materials highlighted in yellow. Today Leonardo is presenting to the financial community the update to the Industrial Plan to 2030, first announced in March 2024, including its medium-term targets. The 2026–2030 Industrial Plan continues the growth strategy pursued by Leonardo over the past three years: becoming a multinational “One Company” with a clear, integrated and international industrial vision. The Group has been strengthened through the rationalisation of its portfolio, the launch of new products, strategic international partnerships and joint ventures, selective M&A transactions, as well as strong digitisation and enhanced production capacity. The 18th European Space Conference, which took place this year from 27–28 January in Brussels, serves as a platform to debate critical issues, while engaging in high-level dialogue on upcoming #Space and #Defence initiatives, national Space strategies, and Europe’s role in global partnerships. The first Plenary Session featured the “European Space Competitiveness and Readiness: A Make-or-Break Decade Ahead” panel, focused on the urgency of accelerating transformation, closing critical capability gaps, and moving from strategy to delivery. During the session, @massimoc_square, Managing Director of #LeonardoSpace, highlighted the increasingly strategic role of Space in the generation and transfer of information. Today, geospatial services already rely extensively on the integration of artificial intelligence and High-Performance Computing (#HPC). The next evolutionary step will be to bring HPC directly on board the Space layer. In this context, #Leonardo recently announced its investment in its own #EarthObservation constellation, a leading edge system with multisensors capabilities, on board computing and Space to Space interconnection.
