This account is being reactivated! YL / LS elections are being rerun, I think it's a perfect time to advertise my recent piece for @LabourList 'Are slates helping or harming Labour’s internal elections?’ Let me know what you think about the topic! labourlist.org/2026/03/are-sl…

This is the difference Barnsley Labour makes. While others talk about change, Barnsley delivers it. Bringing healthcare into the town centre means: - Easier access to appointments - Shorter waiting times - More services close to home - A stronger, thriving town centre This is what happens when you have a council that plans ahead, invests wisely, and puts Barnsley people first. We’ve come too far to put all this at risk. Back Barnsley Labour — and keep our town moving forward. 🌹 theguardian.com/society/2026/a…

@TomLaing14 Turnout does make a lot of difference, I fear it was quite a bit lower than expected and may show how many members have left. All I'm saying is the vote share wasn't representative of seats. I need to do the proper maths but I feel Organise can't really claim a strong mandate.

@Labour_Thomas we don’t know what turnout was but i suspect it was low but that’s historically the case. For the record i agree with much of you overall point I don’t think it’s very much the humility in victory approach I like but it was a fairly decisive win for Organise especially in NOLS

Alienating half the membership in one article is pretty poor. Let’s be honest, a lot of members don’t have an active YL branch or Society, so those “achievements” don’t reach them anyway. This wasn’t a strong mandate, it was a fairly even vote share in a very weird situation.

Young Labour and Labour Students elections show strong mandate for Organise’s focus on delivery ⤵️ @LabourList labourlist.org/2026/04/young-…

@TomLaing14 On Individual races there were some absolute clear wins on both sides, but an average of all results is something like 45-55. It still shows a divided result, not a proper mandate. We are focusing on internal wins/losses too much ignoring the fact a lot of members aren’t engaged

@Labour_Thomas But I agree that Renew certainly had a very good performance in YL and overall had that Median swing been a few points higher it would of won a lot more contests, basically Organise where just defending very big majorities on last time. Candidate quality matter a tone too

@ScottishBevan I was the only young member at my CLP meetings for months and months until I encouraged my friend from college to attend. Now he is our LGBTQ+ Officer, it only takes a little bit of encouragement to get young membership involved but Organise isn't doing things like that.

@Labour_Thomas Yeah same honestly, had no idea about the 2024 elections (apparently I did get a ballot) certain I didn't vote though. I remember being the only person at CLP meetings under 25.

@ScottishBevan I've been in the party for 2 years (almost). Before these elections I hadn't really come into contact with many younger members locally. When you don't have a branch or Society that is functioning you are just left there. No real support and stuff like the article doesn't help

@Labour_Thomas Been in the party for three years now, only been active with students and other young people since September upon moving to Edinburgh. Western Isles Young Labour seems non-existent and UHI Labour Students went dark this year (I dispute from experience it existing previously)

I’m absolutely livid. @Nigel_Farage and his @reformparty_uk MPs just walked out during my question to the PM about keeping snooker in Sheffield and getting a tram-train extension to Stocksbridge. Farage and Reform don’t care about constituencies or communities like mine.

When ballots drop this afternoon, make sure you vote for @james_fishwick in Y&H. He’s a proven organiser focused on building YL branches and getting members properly involved. Young Labour should be rooted in member engagement and James gets that. That’s why I’m backing him.

@LabForGov @PolitlcsUK No matter what you think, the members should have got the choice. I personally think this was a lose lose situation. But blocking him outright was the worst scenario.
