Dangerous and life-threatening flooding is happening all over Central Texas right now. Please do not attempt to travel unless you are leaving an area subject to flooding or are under an evacuation order. This storm system is highly unstable—making it very hard to know where and how future storm cells may develop or shift. Austin is in the heart of Flash Flood Alley. It’s critical that you be alert to the dangers of flooding at home and on the road. Reminder: ➡️Avoid driving. If you see water on a road, turn around and find an alternative route. Atxfloods.com is a good resource for flooded road closure information for Austin and surrounding Central Texas communities. ➡️Stay away from creeks, trails, culverts, ponds and other drainage infrastructure. ➡️If water starts to rise, seek higher ground. ➡️Keep a charged cell phone or battery-powered radio close by to monitor local weather conditions. Austin’s Homeland Security and Emergency Management (HSEM), in coordination with the Watershed Protection Department’s (WPD) Flood Early Warning System (FEWS), have been monitoring the potential impact to our city. WPD barricade crews are ready to close off low water crossings as needed. Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) has deployed resources to support response operations in our surrounding areas. LCRA anticipates holding the floodwater in Lake Travis, which is about 43 feet below full, and does not expect to open floodgates at Mansfield Dam, which forms Lake Travis.
