porn addiction isn’t real, but self soothing by masturbating as a stim for people on the AuDHD spectrum is.

@TBadger40 @themarinadove I can say that the use of therapies (not just verbal, methods like EMDR if you have trauma) and retention strategies (I wish I could go into) has increased my focus and attention span way more than the medicine did! I wish it was advocated for more especially for children

@TBadger40 @themarinadove I completely agree with that; I just feel as if the medication itself becomes the coping strategy. My girlfriend and I have ADHD and a large portion of my friends. Some of us as a group decided to "detox" and try these things; boy was it a struggle. After two years though...

@TBadger40 @themarinadove I'm happy that medication use shows improvement to brain structure; but the vast majority of people who use Adderall and Ritalin still prescribe it older ages; Not saying it cannot help but it ain't the solution and I'm sure many can rally behind the negatives it has

@TBadger40 @themarinadove I don't see how it disproves anything, it's talking about how ADHD functions on a neurological level; your brain isn't a different kind of brain then mine, it just grew different. You can heal your brain without having to use a coping strategy like long term medication.

@LePlugdeFire @themarinadove These are actually appreciated, but doesnt this confirm that psychostimulant medications or comorbid psychiatric disorders did not influence brain maturation in ADHD subjects? I knew that and I don't see how it confirms anything you said, in fact I think its more againts you?

@LePlugdeFire @themarinadove Like the study says that ADHD is a disorder of the brain and has no relevance to factors like trauma or incompetent parenting or a lack of discipline whatever. It can't be treated by therapy that targets these issues. It was a cool read but also just a repeat of what I remembered

@TBadger40 @themarinadove So in every article there's a section titled along the lines of "Causes of"; I do believe medications can help function, but the point of meds is to help your function become baseline again. All this does is blast your dopamine and norepinephrine. Anyways here's another article

@Lux_Stella_ The "restrictions" are age restrictions for minors, or do you want to hold the opinion that's wrong?

from what i gather based on the replies, whats going on is sickos in amerikkka are using 'porn addiction' to justify state-level pornography restrictions. so this has triggered an attempt to play language games with the term 'addiction' to defuse this threat. idk good luck ig

@undeadpinko @Lux_Stella_ "Dependence has been easily confused with the term ‘addiction’ when, in fact, the tolerance and withdrawal that previously defined dependence are actually very normal responses to prescribed medications that affect the central nervous system and do not necessarily indicate..."

@undeadpinko @Lux_Stella_ "Brain imaging studies of people with addiction show physical changes in areas of the brain that are critical to judgment, decision-making, learning and memory, and behavior control. These changes... help explain the compulsive and destructive behaviors of an addicted person."
