Some time ago I read a blog post by Tom Leinster and I found this comment particularly interesting. #c040977" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">golem.ph.utexas.edu/category/2012/… I think that the wrong "definition" is really common, but I didn't notice the mistake before and I can't find anyone else who points that out. #iteachmath

People say mathematics is complicated, but all the good math is trying to make really complicated ideas as simple as possible

Real Analysis, The Game (v0.1) is DONE!! 44 Worlds 138 Levels All your old favorites like Bolzano-Weierstrass and Heine-Borel, Uniform Convergence and Riemann Sums, and the biggest Boss of all, the Intermediate Value Theorem! :) Play the game here: adam.math.hhu.de/#/g/AlexKontor… Follow along with all the lectures/videos/notes here: alexkontorovich.github.io/2025F311H/ Very relieved to have survived this semester, it was a tough one! Here's a sneak preview of where this project is headed next (math as a Scratch game... Let's get 12 year olds doing epsilon-delta proofs!)

We are two weeks out from the start of "21st century mathematics", a program I run for K-12 math teachers. (Register now!) The program helps teachers connect the math they teach with some math that has been discovered in the 21st century. The program is flexible, free, & online.

@j_lanier Nice! I'm intrigued and I didn't reach any conclusion... But I'd like to ask a question about the "rules of the game". Can two squares have only a vertex in common (like in the picture) or do they need to share at least a side if they have common points?

Ten squares. The first one has perimeter 14. The second one has perimeter 22. Can anyone find ones with smaller or bigger perimeters? Or other examples that match these? Intrigued? Check out "21st century mathematics", an enrichment program for teachers: justinlanier.org/21st-century-m…

Hi! In July I'm once again running a program for K-12 math teachers called "21st century mathematics". Its goal is to help teachers to connect math they teach with some math that has been discovered in the 21st century. Info+register: justinlanier.org/21st-century-m… Pass it along!

A change in my thinking about mathematics over the last few years is that I’ve come to believe that it is not useful to think of mathematical objects as being “poorly behaved” or “pathological” — everything that is true is beautiful.
