China Harbour Begins Feasibility Survey for Proposed Obeaku Seaport in Abia State A technical team from China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (CHEC), the builders of Nigeria’s Lekki Deep Sea Port, has commenced feasibility and hydrographic surveys for the proposed Obeaku Seaport in Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State. The team, accompanied by top Abia State Government officials, visited Obeaku to assess the waterways and undertake bathymetric and navigational studies necessary for determining the viability of the seaport project. During the visit, the Aku of Obeaku Kingdom, His Royal Highness Eze Ikeagwuchi Ekeke, reaffirmed the community’s commitment to the project, highlighting its donation of over 2,000 plots of land and readiness to provide support for its successful execution. He also stated the seaport should be called Obeaku Seaport and not Azumini - Obeaku Seaport. State government officials described the survey as a major step towards realizing the seaport project, which is expected to boost economic activities, create jobs, and enhance maritime trade in Abia State and the South-East region. © Aba BlogTv 👈 Follow for more updates

A river port, not a sea port It will transport container barges just like any other inland port. It is cheaper to move goods by container barges than by road. Akwa Ibom Deep Sea Port will offload the containers, and barges like this will carry imports and exports directly to Abia.

Creating a seaport in Abia state is a waste of money and time Abia is approx 1hr:30mins from The coastline in Akwa Ibom which is an Ocean coastline. Why do you have that and still want to dredge a river for a port? This is the realistic thing that will happen - The project will not be completed. Even if it's completed, no serious vessel will go in - The Chinese guys know it's a project for them to stay liquid and will be a waste The Abia state government should rather raise funds and invest in the Ibom deep seaport in Akwa Ibom as it is about to start. Abia state has a million and one things they can use that money for. Dredging a river that you will continue to dredge yearly is a waste
