Big update on the future of live-action Spider-Man TV shows — and it’s not the news fans were hoping for 😕
According to the latest report, Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have hit a complete standstill on any new live-action Spider-Man projects for the MCU on Disney+.
The core problem: Sony is refusing to pay the high budgets required to bring Spider-Man characters and storylines into Marvel’s main MCU timeline on the streaming service. As a result, all planned live-action crossovers between Sony’s Spider-Man Universe and the MCU on Disney+ are currently on hold indefinitely.
Right now, the only live-action Spider-Man TV project still moving forward is Spider-Noir, starring Nicolas Cage as a gritty, hard-boiled version of the web-slinger. The series is scheduled to premiere on MGM+ on May 25, 2026, and will arrive on Amazon Prime Video on May 27, 2026.
Meanwhile, the highly anticipated Silk: Spider Society (centered on Cindy Moon / Silk and developed by Phil Lord & Christopher Miller) has been officially dropped as a live-action series.
This development highlights Sony’s current strategy: they want to keep full creative and financial control over their Spider-Man characters and spin-offs rather than integrating them deeply into the MCU’s Disney+ slate. While the animated Spider-Verse movies continue strong, live-action TV crossovers with the main MCU appear to be on the back burner for the foreseeable future.
It’s a reminder of how complicated the Spider-Man rights situation still is between the two studios.
Are you disappointed that we probably won’t see more MCU-style Spider-Man crossovers on Disney+ anytime soon? Or do you prefer Sony keeping their characters completely separate? Drop your thoughts below 👇
