Happy to share my new publication!📚 In 2010, 13 of Russia's ethnic republics had presidents, before a law required them to change the title. As of 2021, only Tatarstan's remains. What can this tell us about identity and center-region relations in #Russia? 🧵 #polisci #Eurasia

These debates are grounded in differing perspectives on Russia and the Soviet Union as empires: so, another key aim of the book is to provide a compact historical overview that raises some of the complexities and tensions therein while being useful to a broad audience.

We identify 3 key focal points where decolonization is shaping discourse: as claims about the trajectory of Russian domestic policy and center-region relations, as a transnational phenomenon embedded in broader geopolitical struggles, and for rethinking academic approaches.

AABS was happy to support a recent lecture by Dr. Adam @LentonAC (Wake Forest U.) as part of the @WingateUniv Baltic Studies Speaker's Series. Over 170 students attended to learn about Russia's war in Ukraine, ethnic mobilization, and what a post-Putin future might look like.
