America needs to stop eliminating librarian jobs — and stop firing librarians who refuse to purge books that a few parents dislike. Librarians don’t just shelve books and stamp library cards. They’re actually trained experts. They know what they’re doing when they pick the books they pick —and they work with teachers to provide important resources for their lessons. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. Read real librarians’ stories and experiences in my book, “The Secret Lives of Booksellers and Librarians,” coming in April. Here’s a sample:

O’Reilly wants an investigation to find the responsible party, but we’ve already done the work.
It was an honest effort by a compliant district to “follow the law.”
Both of his books have descriptions of sexual conduct in them.

We’ve seen far too many people speculate as to why Bill O’Reilly’s books were pulled in Escambia. A 2-star review on GoodReads referencing descriptions of extramarital affairs was enough to pull the book according to the checklist (and FLDOE guidance).
